Hawaiian Mission Houses Historic Site and Archives is planning a full and fun day for its Annual Fall Open House on Saturday, September 22, 2018. Admission to all tours is free to the public, as well as all activities planned for the entire family. Tours of the historic houses will be offered every half hour beginning at 10:30am with the last tour starting at 3pm. Activities and crafts during the day will include lauhala weaving with Ulana Me Ka Lokomaikaʻi guild with demonstrations. Visitors will be able to make a project to take home. Other activities include candle making, nineteenth century games, quill writing activities, and printing press demonstrations on the replica of the first printing press in Hawaiʻi. There will also be a special History Theatre presentation at 12pm on our Kahua Hoʻokipa Stage. Kevin Keaveney will portray Rev. William Richards. Rev. Richards was instrumental in teaching the Aliʻi about Western Political Economy, developing the first Hawaiian Kingdom Constitution, and efforts in gaining international recognition for the independence and sovereignty of the Hawaiian Kingdom. Our September Open House is one of only two days a year that Hawaiian Mission Houses offers free admission for tours.
